(603) Fashion

I like to watch people. Sometimes I get very excited by a fashionably dressed back view of a lady. However, as she passes I realized it is a much older person. Ah! Anticlimax!

Why does a person dress a particular way? Taste? Money? To project a certain image? Indifference? I know of a woman, let us call her Veronica. Veron lost a significant amount of weight in her thirties. She was originally medium size. Now she is as trim as a teenager. That is exactly how she dresses too. I often wonder if she raids her teenage daughter's wardrobe. She is into really tight jeans and short tops. There are often holes in front or at the back of the tiny tops, we see fashionable glimpses of her shoulder or back.

Recently my crowd had a reunion. I met up with a grade school classmate, Yvonne, whom I hadn't seen for at least twenty years. She came to the reunion in a bright red flowery skirt a good three inches from the knees. I was a little taken aback. She used to wear neutral colours and mainly pants and shirts too.

There is a child hood friend, Wilma, whose youngest child finally joined a high school. Lately she is dressed in very bright colours. Most of her tops are pretty revealing too. All the years of breast feeding her brood really endowed her with a most attractive cleavage.

Veron married at nineteen and had her first child soon after. Yvonne got hitched at sixteen and had children almost immediately. Wilma was caught at eighteen, her husband is many years her senior. I wonder if these statistics have anything to do with their dressing style? When the rest of us were swinging single in our twenties, they were raising children. When we were wearing mini skirts and bare backs, they were in maternity attire. When we were dating different people, they were fixed with their partners and were managing households. Now that their children are grown and they have the time to shop, sufficient disposable income to indulge in their fancy and the freedom to be themselves, they have all chosen to go back in time and catch up with what they missed.
