(600) Dress code

This is kind of a continuation of "(585) Shortcomings". In 585 I recorded the experience of  a friend who has just overcome personal pain and a period of depression. Perhaps a person on an even keel emotionally may not have any problem in waking up early to shower and dress for church.

Elizabeth was feeling a little off colored one night and chose the thickest t-shirt to wear to prayer night. It happened to be a little faded and one of those cotton material that become a little uneven with washing - there were tiny balls all over the shirt.

Mei Fong was very observant. She pulled Elizabeth aside and asked if the latter had not enough clothes to wear. After all, it was public knowledge that Elizabeth resides in the Uni hostel on week days. Mei Fong kindly offered to give my daughter some clothes. Elizabeth, who has settled nicely and comfortably into manna economy, actually preferred rooting through big bags of second hand clothing than trying to purchase clothes on a limited budget. The following Sunday, a huge bag came. I sorted through and put aside seven short sleeve t-shirts for Elizabeth.

While all these worked out to be extra blessings to Elizabeth, it might have offended another sensitive girl who is not quite so confident! I still think a church ought to make up of a diverse group of people who talk differently, dress differently, some walk, some drive and some take public transport. Otherwise we would only attract clones like ourselves.
