Three of us sat around, sharing tea and chatting about all sorts of topics. Amy said that her pastor has been lax for months and been hardly preaching the word of God from the pulpit. Granted that he was newly appointed the area leader of the denomination, surely he could preach less and let the junior pastors preach more often so that he could buy more time to prepare proper sermons. Cathy answered that a Senior Pastor could or would not let go of the control of the pulpit, how could he chance losing the majority influence or give the junior staff a chance of replacing him. Well, I said that too bad for the new members, they were hardly being fed spiritual food if it was the case.
Amy related how her church had just produced a self sustaining new church. Shortly after that a group of people who wanted to build their own church decided to come under their umbrella. She wondered how could things be going so well when something as fundamental as pulpit preaching was slipping. Cathy said that God is patient and merciful, the fact that the church is doing well financially and seemingly numbers are growing does not mean that everything is perfect. Our long suffering God could be delaying judgement and giving the person concerned a chance or two to turn around.
