I have a neighbor who runs a few kindergartens. She is a little on the thin side and seemed sickly. Everyone agrees that she is humble and leads by example. Recently she worked flat out preparing for the graduation and concert. Believe it or not, she was there the night before, blowing hundreds of balloons with a few staff members until past mid-night. On the day itself, she was everywhere running the entire show. Sure enough, the day after she fell ill. She has chills and fever, bone aches and nausea.
To her, it was ok as the biggest event of the year is over, she could afford to stay in bed a few days to rest. But to me, what happened to good old delegation? Also, she must have made enough money to afford to hire part-timers to attend to something simple like blowing balloons. Out of a few kindergartens, surely she could train a few willing teachers to take care of key duties on the concert day rather than attempting to do everything herself! It would have been nice to be able to have absolute control of a to z as a superhero. But no human beings are built to work like a superman.
It is easy for an outsider to see that she needs to learn to delegate, to hire more staff than to over work herself, as well as to put aside time to relax with her husband and only son. Life is already short, by burning the candle from both ends, she may make much money but may not have decent health and a long life to enjoy it with her beloved!
